Close To 90% Of Rental Assistance Funds Not Distributed Nationwide

Since the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic, there’s been the promise by the Federal Government that rental assistance money would be available for landlords and tenants.

It has been reported that the Federal Government has still not distributed almost 90% of the assistance money set aside for Landlord-Tenant relief.

Sadly, with another extension of the Federal Eviction moratorium, it’s more important than ever for states to speed up the bureaucratic process and start getting the assistance funds to the people that need it the most.

More States Starting To Distribute Rental Assistance Funds

As of July 2021, more than 340,000 households nationwide received rental assistance funds, that’s an increase of about 15% when compared to the amount of money distributed in June.

The problem is that even though more money is being distributed, rental aid is still sitting in the coffers of many states, including California, waiting to be distributed.

As most states continue to ‘drag their feet when it comes to distributing rental assistance funds, these delays could spell the end of the small ‘mom and pop’ landlord who has been living month to month, waiting for the pandemic to end.

Biden Admin Pushes States To Release More Rental Assistance

Thanks to a recent interview with White House press secretary, Jen Psaki, we know that President Biden and his team have been pressing states to release more rental assistance funds, but the big question is anyone listening?

While states continue to drag their feet with paying out rental assistance, more landlord rights groups are challenging the CDC Eviction Moratorium in court with the hopes that the extension of the moratorium will get struck down and the October 3rd deadline won’t stand.

In the meantime, while the drama plays out in the courts, we’re hopeful that landlords and tenants alike will be able to see some of the long-promised rental assistance money before our country reaches another deadline for evictions.
